Museum viewing

Notice the detail behind the glass.

Museums and attractions ask you to look carefully, but distance, display cases, and crowds can make small details hard to resolve. Closeups offers a live viewing aid for the object in front of you.

What is Closeups?

Closeups can magnify a live camera view of museum displays and attractions, subject to venue rules. It does not identify objects, replace accessibility accommodations, or permit photography where it is prohibited.

For details that reward a second look

Use the tool to inspect texture, construction, a small figure, or a section of a display without moving closer than the venue allows.

The venue’s rules always win

Some museums restrict cameras, screens, flash, or recording. Ask staff when you are unsure. Closeups is optional and should never be used to bypass a policy.

Magnification is not interpretation

The live view can help you see, but it does not tell you what an object means or verify a label. Use the museum’s own information for context.
